Offer dynamic currency conversion and Global Blue multi-currency pricing in a checkout you build on the Direct API.
If you take card payments through the Direct API, you build the dynamic currency conversion (DCC) offer yourself. You ask N-Genius for a quote once you have the card number, show the quote to the customer, and send their choice with the card payment. N-Genius gets the rate from Global Blue. Your integration never calls Global Blue directly.
Which customers and cards are offered DCC, and what happens on captures and refunds, is set out for merchants in Global Blue Dynamic Currency Conversion (DCC). These pages cover what your integration sends and receives.
Using the hosted payment page? With the hosted payment page, Pay by Link and the e-commerce plugins, N-Genius shows the offer for you and there is nothing to build.
How it works
DCC adds one call to a normal Direct API payment: the rate lookup, made after the customer enters their card details and before you send the payment.

Choose a flow
| Flow | Use it when | Calls |
|---|---|---|
| Two-stage | You create the order first, or you need to authorise now and capture later | Create the order, rate lookup by order, card payment on the order |
| Single-stage | The amount is final and you take the payment in one request | Rate lookup by amount, then one payment request that creates the order |
To capture in parts, for example for split shipments, use the two-stage flow with action AUTH. A PURCHASE cannot be captured separately.
Before you start
- Global Blue DCC is switched on for your outlet. Network International does this for you. Ask your relationship manager.
- Orders are in AED. DCC works only on AED orders, on Visa and Mastercard cards.
- Your API key can request quotes. Each call needs a role on your API key.
| Call | Role |
|---|---|
| Rate lookup | FOREX_LOOKUP |
| Create an order | CREATE_ORDER |
| Card payment on an order | CREATE_AUTHORIZATION |
| Single-stage payment | CREATE_ONE_STAGE_SALE |
| Capture | MANAGE_CAPTURE |
| Void | MANAGE_VOID |
| Refund | MANAGE_REFUND |
- You can get an access token. See Request an access token. Send it as a bearer token on every call, with
application/vnd.ni-payment.v2+jsonas theContent-TypeandAcceptheaders.
Quotes last 20 minutes
Each rate lookup returns a quote ID, globalBlueId. It is valid for 20 minutes. Request the quote once the amount is final, just before the customer decides, and do not reuse a quote after it expires. If the customer takes longer, request a new one and show the new amount.
Multi-currency pricing on the Direct API
Where Global Blue also provides multi-currency pricing for you, the customer picks a currency before entering their card, and you send the card payment with currency set to that currency. There is no separate quote step, and N-Genius converts the amount when it takes the payment. To show the customer the converted price first, use Retrieve FX Rates.
A payment uses one or the other. If the customer chose a currency through multi-currency pricing, do not request a DCC quote. If they stayed in AED, you can offer DCC once they enter their card.
| The customer | Send |
|---|---|
| Picks another currency before entering their card | The card payment with currency. No DCC fields. |
| Stays in AED and accepts the DCC offer | The card payment with isDccSelected: true and the globalBlueId |
| Stays in AED and declines the offer | The card payment with isDccSelected: false |
